What’s the point? What’s the fucking point? The question keeps on coming back to me again and again. Failing to answer it, I keep finding something or the other to replace the annoying question every time. What does Life mean? I mean seriously, why are we doing all that we are doing? Most of us want to earn a lot of money as quickly as possible. Why? Someone would say, “Oh money? I’m earning so that I can retire at 40 and travel the world having different experiences.” But wanting to travel around the world for sure cannot be the reason why you are here! That’s just too mundane. It’s a big universe out there; Earth is like a small electron or even smaller than that when compared to the size of the universe. You, as an individual human being when compared to the size of our planet are again similar to an electron. So you see we are ridiculously insignificant in front of the whole truth called universe. Either that or we are of such a high significance that we have forgotten it basking in its glory.
It sounds utterly irrational when something that is very worldly becomes the dream-of-my-life thing for someone. I am not trying to make some one’s dream look small or insignificant. I too, when not in this complaining-to-the-universe mode, have many worldly dreams and I fight hard to achieve those. But sometimes it feels just completely foolish to be involved in things that you know just won’t matter at all; things that would have no effect on this universe at all. Those things, those ideas, and those thoughts which you think are your dreams, would end with you. Now you may decide to write a book full of your thoughts that would be passed on from generation to generation, it may even become a compulsory text book for some school kids 20 years after you die, but so what!! Was THAT why you were here? No, I don’t think so.
We have made legends of many a people who have done similar stuff over the duration of their life: Charles Darwin, Thomas Edison, Leonardo da Vinci and the likes. I agree they all have done great things because of which the human life has “progressed” so much. But what’s the point of this progress? Were the people who didn’t live in this progressed world didn’t actually live? If they also led a fulfilling life, then why did we need this progress in the first place: To get a better understanding of our world? Heck, what DO we know about this world? Zilch.
We are so much engrossed in and celebrate happily all this usualness that it has hypnotized our sense of reality and the way we want to try perceiving the reality. It may sound like some dialogues from the movie Matrix but really, there IS a big problem with us and we all know this. We have consciously or subconsciously busied ourselves so much in this normalcy that it has become very difficult to come out of it. I just hope that there is an answer to this somewhere and if it’s not there, I hope the question stops coming back to me bothering the deepest recesses of my mind and screamingly inquiring, “What’s the point?”
