Yawn on, you crazy diamond.
Most of us have experienced it. If you haven’t yet, you will soon. You might observe it while sitting in a bus coming back from office after a hard day’s work; or while watching an old movie on TV with your friends; or perhaps while in a classroom trying hard to keep your eyes open; or may be while reading this blog.
It’s called the Yawn Effect. I don’t know if this is a standard term for this; you may want to Google it out, but please assume this to be so for this post. This essentially says that you are much more likely to yaaahhhaawwwwnnnn if
you see someone else yawning, or
you read something that contains the word “yawn” or any other word that triggers the same yawn-y feelings in you
And even if you have not been lucky enough to be a part of the Yawn Effect till now, you must surely have yawned at least 5 times the number of days in your life till now. So you see, this is a pretty usual thing for us, yet we never think about it for more than a second. I say this is a big disrespect for the Yawn God.
Anyway. The exact reasons of why we yawn have not yet been discovered but some think that it is linked to the cooling of our brain. All of us yawn irrespective of our age. Many animals too are known to be following this yawning ritual.
Whatever the reason be, yawning is such an interesting thing to do. We usually link it to boredom and look down upon it. But think about it, it sometimes is the only form of stretching exercise you do in days, or weeks perhaps if you are unlucky.
Yawning has other benefits too. For instance, what do you do when you find someone talking to you on a topic you are completely not interested in? You yawn! As casual and simple as that. And fun too. What other subtle way can you think of to offend a public speaker than sitting on the front seat and yawning helplessly. The speaker is going to remember your face for his entire life. Just watch out while you yawn in an open place - you might become the target of some flying bird’s stuff.
I have yawned at least 3 times while writing this post. This could be because of the Yawn Effect or may be because I am writing for some boring readers.
And if you have not yawned even now, read this line again and again till you yawn.
