I have been trying to find a bigger purpose to my life since a long time. But in the past one year, I have realized that there is no given purpose for any individual and that it is up to him/her to create a purpose for him(her)self. Although this realization has saved me from continuing to ponder over an unanswerable and in fact a wrong question, but it has now left me with numerous options available to treat as a purpose of my life. Another smaller realization has been that I need not decide on a single purpose for my entire life. I could decide a purpose for the next five years and give my everything for that purpose in the next 5 years. Thereafter, I will end up choosing another purpose for the next some years and so on and so forth. So this is completely up to the individual to decide on the number of purposes to have in life, and what those purposes would be.
There is no way to rank which purpose is better than the other. They can not be compared. At least not for different individuals. A single individual might compare which purpose will be good for him or her and he or she would implicitly take the result of this internal comparison into account while choosing a purpose. For the sake of this planet, we have to consider some purposes as inherently wrong like Hitler’s purpose of emptying this planet from Jews etc. Setting such destructive purposes aside, every other purpose is worthwhile and can’t be said to be better or worse than any other non destructive purpose. I might have been doing this process of purpose setting all my life till now without even knowing it. But now that I know this, I feel more relaxed about it - in the sense that I don’t feel anxious due to the frequent changes in my purposes. Some purposes are lifelong. I’ll consider myself very lucky to find such a lifelong purpose for myself. And I think I might have found some good purposes for myself for the rest of my life: Trying to travel a lot of places in this world, reading as many books as I can, writing as much as I can and getting as many books published as I can, getting an amazing girl and making her happy. This last one is the best of them all. Pleasing a woman. Making her the center of my universe. Taking care of her and her needs. Making her my priority number one. Being there for her whenever she needs me. This is my purpose. And I think I have found my amazing girl. I hope she is my “pearl”. I want to make her the single most important purpose of my life. I want to make her happy. I want to please her. I want her to be the center of my universe. I want my life to be revolving around her. I want to make her the priority number one in my life. If I do justice to this purpose, it will make us both happy. I will be happy because I am working to complete the purpose of my life. She will be happy because I will ensure her happiness.
Now comes the definition part. Keeping her needs above mine, making her your priority number one, doing everything in your power to make her happy is not only a good purpose to have, but also it is something that many men and women accept as a purpose. And they have also been very kind heart-ed and have given this purpose a four-lettered-name. It is called love. Yes, Love. I have been hearing this word ever since I began watching Bollywood movies when I was 3, 4? But I have truly understood its meaning only now. And it’s good because I did not need to understand what love is to make it the purpose of my life. When I say “I love you” to a woman, it basically means that “You are the purpose of my life.” And all the things like caring, making her happy would automatically follow.
